Meet the panagendians: Daniel Reimann

by katrin strick ::  |  |
QuickImage The next person we want to introduce you to is Daniel, whom you have un-officially met in our "Norway here we come!" blog post!

1. What’s your name, position and location? And what exactly do you do?

Daniel Reimann
Head of Technical Account
Heppenheim, Germany

I'm working @panagenda as a direct technical contact person for all of our customers and business partners, mostly for MarvelClient and GroupExplorer. I give online presentations, visit customers on site, present at conferences and also implement our software solutions. To get all our customers and business partners going, I provide technical trainings to consultants and administrators.

2. When did you first start getting involved with technology?

In 1988 at the age of 10, we had our first Intel 80286 with 12MHz, 2MB RAM and a 20MB Harddisk at home. I plugged an Amiga joystick into the serial COM1 port - because it fitted well! - and caused a short circuit on the mainboard. After getting the PC back from repair, I did exactly the same thing again... well, I was sure that it didn't broke because of the joystick but rather because my father had no idea of PCs! Ever since then I always had my very own PC and never broke one again :)

3. What do you consider the greatest invention EVER!?!?

Comics!

4. What’s one sure fire way to bring a smile to your face?

When my wife walks into the room <3

5. Finish this sentence: “panagenda rocks because_____”

...i've never encountered people who where that involved in what they're doing. Everyone @panagenda is an absolute specialist in his field and know's what s/he is doing. We're one strong team of smart people who are creating amazing products and support each other.

Got Domino/Notes? Want Speed?

by francie tanner ::  |  |  |
Check out this blog post from our friend Lars Berntrop-Bos on how our Lotusphere session helped his company gain significant application and server performance on IBM Lotus Domino.

"I just enjoyed a wonderful speed up of development work on our Domino 8.5 environment, which runs on IBM i.  It was done by upgrading the ODS on ALL databases, templates and mail.box files to the current ODS, 51. Here's how.
A short history:
I've been hounding our sysadmins about lagging ODS versions for over a year, which was given renewed vigor when I got to see LS 2012 BP110 'A Performance Boost for your IBM Lotus Notes Client', by Francie Tanner & Florian Vogler of panagenda.  It spoke of HUGE benefits of upgrading all you ODS (OnDiskStructure), like up to 80% less disk I/O for ODS 51.  I thought that would be nice on our Domino server too..... (read more here!)
Results:
On our main application server, which also houses several versions of templates for most of our apps, this resulted in 186 databases being upgraded, mostly templates.  Immedeate benefit: creating a new template on the server no longer requires a 2+ minute wait, it finishes in 8 or 10 seconds! Same with design refreshes from a server based template: no more loooong waits, but a 8 to 10 second operation. So I recommend to seriously consider upgrading the ODS on all your servers.  While you're at it, upgrade the Notes Clients too, they too benefit from these updates..., and on 8.5.2 and newer clients, the same -ODS -* parameters can be used."

Thanks for the shout-out Lars and to read the entire article including scripting IBM i series scripting here!
